Dry Shade Habitat Pack (dry/average soil, shade/part-shade)
This pack of drought-tolerant landscape-quality species is appropriate for a dry, part-shade to full-shade garden. The species in this pack tend to remain short. This pack will provide at least three seasons of beauty and pollinator habitat.
15 plants (one flat of quarts) will cover about 15 square feet of shaded ground. Denser plantings means fewer weeds. These plants will slowly spread, so each year you can continue to expand your pollinator habitat.
Your pack will include a selection of 5-7 species chosen from the following depending on availability. Each pack will include as many seasons as possible.
Spring blooms: Aquilegia canadensis (Wild Columbine), Carex pensylvanica (Pennsylvania Sedge) Phlox divaricata (Woodland Phlox), Sedum ternatum (Wild Stonecrop)
Summer/Fall blooms: Asclepias exaltata (Tall Milkweed), Danthonia spicata (Poverty Oatgrass), Eurybia divaricata (White Wood Aster), Heuchera americana (Coral Bells), Pycnanthemum incanum (Hoary Mountain Mint), Solidago flexicaulis (Zig Zag Goldenrod), Symphyotrichum cordifolium (Blue Wood Aster)
Year-round interest: Carex pensylvanica (Pennsylvania Sedge), Dryopteris marginalis (Marginal Wood Fern), Heuchera americana (Coral Bells), Polystichum acrostichoides (Christmas Fern), Sedum ternatum (Wild Stonecrop)
