Pollinator Garden Habitat Pack (dry/average soil, full sun)
Feed the Ridge and Valley’s pollinators with this collection of nectar/pollen-rich species. Includes 15 quart-size plants chosen for their importance for pollinator species such as bees, butterflies, moths, and even hummingbirds that feed on the columbine in the spring! Plant these and watch your tiniest neighbors thrive.
*similar to the DRY SUN habitat pack but a bit more “refined” with fewer species.
15 plants (one flat of quarts) will cover about 30 square feet of ground at a high-density level. Denser plantings means fewer weeds. Most of these plants will spread by seed or rhizomes, so each year you can continue to expand your pollinator habitat.
Your pack will include a selection of 5-7 species chosen from the following depending on availability. Each pack will include as many seasons of blooms as possible.
Spring blooms:Aquilegia canadensis (Columbine), Baptisia australis (Blue Wild Indigo)
Summer blooms: Allium cernuun (Nodding Onion), Asclepias tuberosa (Butterflyweed), Parthenium integrifolium (Wild Quinine), Pycnanthemum virginianum (Virginia Mountain Mint)
Fall blooms: Solidago odora (Sweet Goldenrod), Symphyotrichum oblongifolium (Aromatic Aster), Symphyotrichum prenanthoides (Crooked Stem Aster)
Year-round interest: Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem), a type of warm-season native grass
